This page really hurts me,
why? Because it is just more proof that I don't
go mountain biking much anymore. Sure I ride
to work, and even go on longer "road" rides
on the weekends, shoot I've even take the
Tracer out to Dry Creek every now and then,
but true mountain biking? No, not so much anymore.
Fruita,
CO - In the Summer of 2006,
my brother and I drove back to Kansas for
a family reunion, and had a stop over in
Fruita, CO. Well, you don't have to say
anymore to me, I dragged my back along
and got a quick ride in before we headed
back out on the road. Just a couple of pictures
for you of a really nice trail along the Colorado
River, not very technical, but fun none the
less.
Towsley
Canyon, SCV - November 2003,
Jeff and I rode Towsley Canyon, just after
a huge fire swept through the area. We
had ridden this trail many times, but wanted
to check it out since the fire. This is
what we saw.
The
Mickey Mouse Trail, Folsom Lake - October
2003, Crew took a trip up to Folsom Lake
Trail to ride the Mickey Mouse Trail. Quite
a ride out, then a bit of climbing and
then a technical section back down. Everyone
crashed at one time or another, and I seriously
bonked on the way back, had to have Phil
pull over on the way home so I could blow
chunks on the side of Hwy. 50. Good ride!
The Flume
Trail, Lake Tahoe, NV -
August 2003, my brother, and friends Joe & Vickie
went to Tahoe for the weekend, so I took
my bike and on Sunday rode the infamous "Flume
Trail", not an expert ride, but you
couldn't beat the view once you were on the
actual flume. Of course to get to the flume,
you had to climb for 4 miles from the trail
head.
Half Moon
Bay - The Tracer's Maiden Voyage - After
Dry Creek, I took the Tracer out to Half
Moon Bay to break her in. Not very challenging,
5 miles up, 5 miles back, nice views
of the ocean, but nothing else to report.
Moab,
UT - 2002 -
Jeff and I took another mountain biking
trip out of state in the spring of 2002,
this time to the mountain biking mecca
of Moab. We enjoyed it, but we kinda thought
that the famous "Slick
Rock Trail" was a bit over rated. We
had much more fun on the Dinosaur Trail the
following day. And of course what would an
out of state trip be without me injuring
myself, tore some ligaments in my ankle this
year, I couldn't ride for 6 months, what
a killer.
Sedona,
AZ - 2001 - Ah yes,
what was to be the first of many
trips out of state for mountain biking.
This was a great trip, we got a bunch
of rides in, lots of nice scenery,
and I crashed big time, which of
course makes for a great story. It
was also the last time we stayed
in tents for these trips, hello motels!
Downieville
- 2000 - A lot of great
talking about Downieville got Jeff and
I to take a trip up there to try her
out. I remember our first impression
of her was when we drove into town. The
end of the trail dumps you off in town,
and we saw all these guys coming in bloodied
and bikes busted up, and we're thinking,
what did we get ourselves into. But it
was an awesome trail, long downhill single
track, with just enough technical to
make it fun, but not enough to make it
more then I like.
Zion National Park, UT - 1998 - This was the last voyage of Ole Stumpy 1.0, the front suspension went out, and it was obvious that in order for me to keep up with Jeff on his full suspension, I'd have to go that route. This was a great trip, Gil went with us and we met her sister and her kids there, and we campled just outside the park. As you can see from the pictures it is very beautiful there, we did some hiking and site-seeing, plus Jeff and I got a couple days of riding in. Plus we got to drive 10 hours in the front of a Ford Ranger, the three us us, regular cab, good thing we were a lot thinner then.
Check
Out the Old-Time Mountain Biking Pics! - Man
there some old ones in here. A couple
from the 80's no less. Good rides, when I
was naturally in shape, and could ride
for days. There's even a shot of my old
flannel shorts, ah yes, the grunge years. |
